April Lockhart
April Lockhart (born July 4 in 1995) started her musical journey as a 7th grader in which she began piano and guitar classes. April Lockhart composed her first track"Different" when she was 12 years old. When April was 14 years old, she dedicated the majority of her time creating song ideas as well as perfecting the song. In the following months, April started to take trips across NY and LA together with her father in order for them both write songs. April was the month that she began to write about other issues in Take My Hand for those of her peers who struggled with peer pressure, disabilities or suicide. Lockhart collaborates with famous clean beauty brand Ilia as well as a lifestyle blogger with a huge following of her own. Since she was born without a left hand, Lockhart is a major part of her. It's however not the only thing she has to tell. The profile of Lockhart on Twitter does not shy away from the fact that she is disabled and does not make a point of it. The message is? That we all contain multitudes that our identities are complex and that we are more than our physical selves. Lockhart states in the video Lockhart via video "I do not believe that disability should define my character. It's not my intention to be an influencer on disability because I have so much more to offer." But it does not affect my daily life. I still do all the normal things and have adapted to my disability. However, it's a component of me so I think it's important to talk about. Self-acceptance is a lifelong marathon however Lockhart is a true inspiration on that front. She admits that she has gone through phases of insecurity with her physique and being uncomfortable wearing some clothing types which showed her arms. The woman now puts on whatever clothes she wants and posts pictures on Facebook with pride. One of the keys to self-love for her is the fact that it's not a destination. But, this isn't typical for people with doubts. I think that having people with you who are aware of you and know your feelings is crucial because they'll be the people that remind you of what are you worried about?
