Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's parents moved to Louisiana at the beginning of 1990s. Decker won a regional talent show with a version of Patsy Montana's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart at the age of only nine. Decker moved to Georgia around the age of 15. She'd started writing songs, and made regular trips to Nashville, making the rounds of record companies and music publishers, looking for something to sign. An agent from the independently-owned label Big Yellow Dog Records heard her when she was 17 and began selling her music to other labels. Decker's demos were passed through to L.A. Reid by Mercury Records President David Massey, who was the head of Island/Def Jam. Reid then signed Decker to a recording contract. The first self-titled album under the name Jessie James arrived in August 2009. Jessie James was reasonably successful and featured Wanted the single which climbed the Top 40 of the singles charts. Decker is always considered a Country performer, but the album was made and promoted it for a pop audience. Decker fought with the label to get greater control over her music after two of her singles failed. Her next release, Boys in the Summer, was more country oriented. The second album of Decker, dubbed as Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records, was pulled because Mercury was disappointed by the performance of three of Decker's singles on the country charts.
