When she reached nine, Decker's family lived in Louisiana and she was the winner of the regional talent contest by singing the cover of Patsy's "I Would Like to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart. Decker was a resident of Georgia in the year she turned 15 years old. Decker began to write songs and made regular trips to Nashville in search of a record deal. However while Decker was always an artist from the country scene, her album was released and marketed with a pop audience in the back of her mind. Decker felt unhappy with two more singles that were released from the album, challenged against the management of the record label for greater control. Decker then released her second single Boys in the Summer which was more country. Decker's second studio album was revealed with the title Daughter of a Gypsy, or Sweet American Dreams. Mercury put it on hold and three of Decker's country songs failed. The album was later canceled.
